Vocal Editing in Logic

If you’re a singer or songwriter who wants to record professional sounding vocals from home, there is so much more to getting a good vocal than the actual singing. If you’re new to Logic, don’t be intimidated by the Logic interface. Once you build a solid template and get the hang of some key commands, you’ll be comping and delivering pristine vocals in no time.

 I’m giving you all my secrets in this course, as we record vocals, build a comp, clean it, and prepare it for sending in Logic Pro X. And from singer to singer, you won’t hear too much technical jargon or waste time going through features of Logic that don’t apply to recording vocals. 

 In this course we cover:

* Recording settings for vocals such as sample rate, recording levels, pre-sets, and metronome settings

* Building a template so that all your setting are always correct and ready to go

* Labeling and colorizing takes for easier editing

* Key commands that speed up and simplify editing

* Comping practices, such as finding easy edit points, fine tuning edit points, trimming out ambient noise, fades and cross fades

* Discussion of the art/aesthetic of comping, i.e. how much of each take to keep, whether or not to keep breath sounds, etc.

* File delivery - how to bounce, label files, and send them

What you need: You’ll already need to be set up with the basics - your mic, pre-amp, and Logic, and know how to at least hit record and see/hear that recording in Logic. It is strongly recommended to have a mouse for detailed editing work. That’s it!
